Bamboo Has over 1200 variations that come from many diverse locations. Bamboo is found from the high mountains of China to the hot tropics of the Amazon Rain Forest, and almost everywhere in between. There is even one species native to North America.
Many Clumping Bamboo are Cold Hardy, meaning they can take temperatures below freezing, without sustaining severe damage. Many clumping bamboo can withstand sustained temperatures in the 20's with little damage. Multiplex clumping Bamboo is the Heartiest of the bunch and can withstand temperatures into the low teens without damage.
Running Bamboo, as a rule, is much more cold hardy than its clumping cousins. Ther are some runners that can even take temperatures into the negetaves. These runners usually benefit from a winter dormacy period and when used in the landscape, are better left for cooler climates.All of our Running Bamboo is Cold Hardy.
